Lebanese Potato Souffle
This Lebanese Potato Soufflé is a rich comfort dish made with creamy mashed potatoes, spiced beef and mushroom filling, and a crispy golden breadcrumb topping. Perfect for family dinners or gatherings.
🛒 Ingredients
🥔 For the Mashed Potatoes
▢ 2 lbs Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and chopped 🥔
▢ ½ cup milk 🥛
▢ 4 tbsp butter 🧈
▢ 1 tsp garlic powder 🧄
▢ 1½ tsp salt (divided) 🧂
▢ 1 tsp black pepper ⚫
🥩 For the Beef Filling
▢ 2 tbsp olive oil 🫒
▢ 1 onion, finely chopped 🧅
▢ 1 lb (95% lean) ground beef 🥩
▢ 8 oz mushrooms, diced 🍄
▢ 1 tbsp seven spice 🌶️
▢ 1 tsp salt 🧂
🍞 For Assembly & Topping
▢ ½ cup panko breadcrumbs 🍞
▢ Olive oil spray 🫒
👩🍳 Instructions
🥔 Prepare the Potatoes
1️⃣ Place potatoes in a pot and cover with cold water. Add 1 tsp salt.
2️⃣ Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and cook for 20–25 minutes until fork tender.
3️⃣ Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot.
4️⃣ Add milk, butter, garlic powder, remaining salt, and black pepper.
5️⃣ Mash until smooth and creamy.
🥩 Prepare the Beef Filling
6️⃣ Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
7️⃣ Cook onions for about 10 minutes until soft and translucent.
8️⃣ Add ground beef and mushrooms.
9️⃣ Cook for 8–10 minutes, breaking up the meat until browned.
🔟 Season with seven spice and salt. Mix well and set aside.
🧑🍳 Assemble the Dish
1️⃣1️⃣ Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
1️⃣2️⃣ Grease a 9×13 baking dish with olive oil spray.
1️⃣3️⃣ Spread half of the mashed potatoes evenly on the bottom.
1️⃣4️⃣ Add the beef mixture as the middle layer.
1️⃣5️⃣ Top with remaining mashed potatoes, smoothing gently.
🔥 Bake
1️⃣6️⃣ Sprinkle breadcrumbs evenly over the top layer.
1️⃣7️⃣ Lightly spray breadcrumbs with olive oil.
1️⃣8️⃣ Bake uncovered for 30–35 minutes until golden and set.
🍽️ Serve
1️⃣9️⃣ Let cool for 10 minutes before cutting.
