Halawet El Jeben

Halawet El Jeben is a famous dessert in Lebanon, Syria and Jordan. Try this delicious recipe of Halawet El Jeben.

  • 5 cups of Akkawi Cheese or Ricota Cheese
  • 2 cups of flour
  • 1/2 cup of Syrup
  • 3 cups of fresh Kushta or Home made Kushta (Cream)
  • 1/4 cup of lemmon jam
  • 1/2 cup of pistachio (Minced)
  1. Cut the cheese into thin slices and drawn them in cold water for a night.
  2. Change the water few times.
  3. The next day take the cheese and put it in a pan and put it in the oven until it melts.
  4. Take the melted cheese and put it in a deep pan and mix with flour and Syrup.
  5. Take the pan and put it over the fire and mix until you get a well combined and soft dough.
  6. Take some syrup and brush it on your kitchen table and put the dough on it and start spreading the dough until it gets thin.
  7. Now you have the Halawet el Jeben ready.
  8. Take some Kushta Cream and fill the middle with it.
  9. Rap the dough to become a long circular cilender.
  10. Cut it into pieces of 3cm long.
  11. Take the pieces and put them in the serving plate and add some Syrup over them.
  12. Spread some of the minced pistachio, lemmon jam over the top.
