Baklava… The royal Eastern dessert with crispy layers and rich nuts!
Baklava is a classic Middle Eastern dessert loved worldwide for its crispy, golden layers of phyllo pastry, rich nut filling, and sweet syrupy finish. Perfect for special occasions or a luxurious treat, each bite melts in your mouth with a heavenly combination of crunch and sweetness. Making baklava at home brings a taste of tradition and elegance to your table!
Ingredients:
- 1 pack of ready-made phyllo (gollash) pastry
- 1 cup crushed nuts (peanuts, almonds, pistachios, walnuts)
- 1/2 cup clarified butter or melted ghee
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
- A pinch of cinnamon (optional)
For the syrup (qater):
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup water
- Juice of 1/2 lemon
- A pinch of vanilla or cinnamon
Instructions:
1️⃣ Prepare the syrup first: Boil the sugar, water, and lemon for 10 minutes, then let it cool completely.
2️⃣ Mix the crushed nuts with powdered sugar and cinnamon.
3️⃣ Grease a baking tray with butter, then lay half of the phyllo sheets, brushing melted butter between each layer.
4️⃣ Spread the nut mixture evenly, then continue layering the remaining phyllo sheets, brushing each layer with butter.
5️⃣ Cut the baklava into squares or triangles before baking.
6️⃣ Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 25–30 minutes until golden and crispy.
7️⃣ As soon as it comes out of the oven, pour the cold syrup over it and let it soak.
Result: Golden, crispy baklava with flaky layers and crunchy nuts inside… an irresistible authentic Eastern dessert!
