Easy Basbousa Recipe! Delicious and golden every time!

Today, we’re making a moist and flavorful Basbousa, a classic Middle Eastern dessert. Follow these simple steps to create a delicious treat your family and friends will love. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Prepare the Basbousa Mix

1. In a large mixing bowl, combine:

- One cup of milk (250 ml)

- One cup of oil (250 ml)

- One cup of yogurt (250 ml)

- One tablespoon of vanilla (15 ml)

- Half a cup of sugar (100 grams)

- Coarse semolina (400 grams)

- One cup of coconut (80 grams)

- One tablespoon of baking powder (10 grams)

- A sprinkle of salt

2. Gently mix the ingredients until just combined. Avoid overmixing to ensure the basbousa stays moist when baked.

Step 2: Prepare the Baking Tray

1. Brush a baking tray with one tablespoon of ghee or butter.

2. Pour the basbousa mix into the tray and use a spatula to spread it evenly.

Step 3: Bake the Basbousa

1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (250°C).

2. Bake for 20 minutes.

3. In the last 5 minutes, turn on the broiler to give the top a golden finish.

Step 4: Make the Syrup

While the basbousa bakes, prepare the syrup:

1. Heat a saucepan over medium heat.

2. Add:

- Two cups of sugar (400 grams)

- Two and a half cups of water

- One teaspoon of vanilla

- One tablespoon of lemon juice

3. Stir and let it simmer for 10 minutes.

Step 5: Assemble the Basbousa

1. Remove the basbousa from the oven and immediately pour the hot syrup over it while it’s still hot.

2. Cover the tray and let it cool for 3–4 hours.

Step 6: Decorate and Serve

1. Cut the cooled basbousa into squares or your preferred shape.

2. Decorate with crushed pistachios and coconut.
